The past year has been a wild ride both locally and globally with wildfires, the pandemic, and a huge growth in recreational use of our outdoors in the Pacific Northwest. Here at We Love Clean Rivers we’re excited to be working on expanding our Clackamas River Ambassador program for 2021 and could use your help!
What is a River Ambassador?
We work with local stakeholders and and post volunteers at high use locations along the river throughout the summer offering PFD loaners, free whistles, reusable trash pickup bags, and general safety and river information. It’s a great way to safely share information and stewardship standards in an inclusive way with folks that are outside of the boating community. The program runs Memorial Day through Labor day.
What are the volunteer requirements?
Volunteers will need to be able to commit to at least two shifts of five hours in length over the summer season, Memorial Day through Labor Day. There will be a two hour training in May over Zoom and the option to view a video training. Volunteers should have access to their own transportation to and from the site, the ability to lift ~20lbs (a pop up tent), and a basic knowledge of the Clackamas River area.
Benefits of Volunteering as a River Ambassador
This is a great position to be able to safely socially connect with other people who have a shared love of the region while advocating for the Clackamas River. We will provide River Ambassadors with hats and t-shirts as well as other perks throughout the season.
If you have any other questions about the River Ambassador program, or would like to help but are unable to volunteer this season please email our Event and Volunteer Coordinator, Travis Cooper, at firstname.lastname@example.org
