About We Love Clean Rivers, Inc.
With the success of river cleanups for six years running it became clear to event organizers that perhaps it was definitely time to consider formation of a non-profit to support and sustain future river cleanups.
And so a new chapter of the river cleanup legacy was written during 2009. With the name of “We Love Clean Rivers” chosen to be the nonprofit name, a website was launched and names gathered to establish the first board of directors. Kristin Dahl, one of the three original kayakers who got things going back in 2003, was announced as President with Sam Drevo, another original kayaker, serving as a board officer along with Kate Ross. Jacqui Bishop would provide legal counsel as the new organization established itself. Paperwork was filed to establish WLCR Inc. as a 501 ( c ) 3 organization. Arrangements were made to contract with a professional event organizer to oversee the 2009 river cleanup. A mission statement (“turning restoration into recreation”) was coined along with a tentative five year vision plan drafted so as to “take things to the next level”.
Following the 2009 river cleanup, WLCR will continue its focus on safe and effective river cleanups and explore the future and the possibilities that may lie ahead.
